Built in the late 1930s, the Battlebox was a secret underground command centre which was part of the headquarters for Malaya Command, the army that defended Singapore during World War II.
Most significantly, it was in one of the rooms within the Battlebox where the British made the decision to surrender Singapore to the invading Japanese on 15 February 1942.
